Throughout Trinity Church's long history, she has been served by many emminent and capable members, leaders and clergy.  Their faith, hard work and dedication made Trinity Church the great community it is today. 

Our Rector: The Rev. Evan Thayer

The Rev. Evan Thayer was called to serve as the Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Demopolis in August of 2022.

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Evan attended Baton Rouge High School and graduated from L.S.U. with a Bachelor of Music degree. After moving to Birmingham, Alabama he became involved with Children’s Dance Foundation, eventually assuming the role of Artistic Director. While in Birmingham Evan was a soloist at Temple Emanu-El and also sang in the choir of St. Mary’s-on-the Highlands. It was there he began to discern a call to ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church. In 1994 Evan moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend Episcopal Divinity School, where he completed a Master of Divinity Degree. He was ordained in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts in 2003.

After ordination, Evan served as a bi-vocational priest working first with AIDS service organizations and then at MetroWest Medical Center in addition to his parish ministry. For seventeen years Evan served at Church of St. Augustine and St. Martin, an Historic Black Church in Boston, becoming Rector in 2016. He was a founding member of Roxbury-Dorchester Power in Community and served as Dean of the Boston Harbor Deanery.

The youngest of four children, Evan has family spread across the country. His oldest brother Carl lives in Laramie, Wyoming. His brother Eric, and wife Kate, live in Santa Cruz, California. His sister Lisa lived in Cowarts, Alabama with her husband Bill until her death from ALS in January of 2023.

In addition to his parish duties Evan also serves on the boards of the Sawyerville Camp for the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama, Two Rivers Arts Council, Demopolis Music Study Club and on the Black Belt Women Rising Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Task Force.
